因为很想做一个自己的website，前两天就一直在找registrars。

 

然而XU YOU同学的慷慨大方顿时打消了我的所有的动力——很有“慈母多败儿”的感觉阿。

但是还是把这几天看到的东西整理一下，一来以备将来可能之需，二来显示我确实有努力过。

 

All the legal registrars are approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which means you can find all their names on the official website of ICANN.

 

Remark: ICANN’s WHOIS database(the default website you are directed to when you click is what I used)is a very vital resource for anyone who owns or is looking for a domain.

P.S. Unix and Linux computers include a whois command.

 

However,  even the registrars are legal that doesn’t guarantee you will enjoy a nice service. Some registrars, especially those offer the incredibly prices may be slow to respond your request.

在这里，特别提出一位仁兄：RegistrarFly同学曾经永久性的丢失了上千位顾客的domains。然而令人发指的是，这位同学依然在运行！

 

A safe way to find a good registrar is to consult some sites that offer user reviews of registrars, including NamePro’s index of registrars, DNForum.com’s Domain Registrar Reviews, and RegSelect.

 

After you buy your domain, make sure your name appears in the offical WhoIs database record for your domain. Some untrustworthy registrar may sell your domains when use its own name in the domain’s database. Or it may offer you a ‘private’ domain registration, with your name, address, and phone number missing from where they ordinarily appear in the record.

Hence, before you register a domain, make sure that the registrar lets you decide who is listed as owner.

总之：谨防诈骗。

 

Remark: we should notice a very uncomfortable regulations of ICANN which says that a request to transfer your domain to another registrar must go through if the domain owner fails to respond to the request within FIVE days. In other words, it is a good chance that if we don’t check our email in 5 days we will lose our domains. So choose a registrar that lets you block any attemped domain transfer until you specifically allow it.

P.S.Microsoft同学在几年前就差点丢失了它的域名，就因为它忘了付35美元的年费——咬牙切齿的在想，它怎么就不多忘两天呢？

 

另外，如果你在一些很恶劣的registrars上搜索你感兴趣的域名，它很有可能故意的霸住那个域名（如果很多人都对那个域名感兴趣的话，那么那个网站也很容易被点击到——那个网站的流量就很大，于是就非常有广告价值。

虽然我对于这个说法不置可否：因为虽然“标题党”是很重要的，但是一个网站的点击率和他的内容最成正比，再好的域名都不可能带来非常巨大的流量。不过倒是有可能registrars会一高价出售这些域名。但总之不管怎么样，就是一定要先看清楚这些registars的信誉。
